It's been a long week, and you're looking forward to happy hour. But a night on the town can do serious damage to your diet, especially if you order cocktails made with high-calorie mixers.
Still, happy hour doesn't have to be a diet downer. With a little planning, you can avoid diet disaster, and there are some alcoholic drinks that are relatively low in calories!
Moscow mule with a twist
One of my personal favorites for the summer is a Moscow mule with ginger beer, vodka, lime juice, and skipping the simple syrup. It's so refreshing, and when you don't use simple syrup, it's only around 80 calories!
Minty yet refreshing– ask the bartender to use half the amount of simple syrup to save 40 cals (or even ditch it all together). Fresh mint, lime and soda water with a splash of rum rounds out to around 100 calories.
Rum and Diet
Switch the coke to a diet and you’ll save on some calories. Spice up the rum for a little kick!
Vodka seltzer with lemon or lime
Many think that tonic water is the same as seltzer water, but it actually contains a lot of calories and sugar. Instead, use seltzer, which is just water with bubbles, and tastes the same
if not better! Squeeze a spritz of either lemon or lime will give the drink a sugar-free boost of flavor!
Vanilla vodka and diet ginger ale
Flavor-infused vodkas are flavored vodkas without any extra calories. Finally, a drink that tastes like a cupcake and is under 100 calories? I’m in heaven!
Glass of champagne
Champagne and champagne-related cocktails are some of the most forgiving in the calorie department. One standard flute (about 4 oz.) rings in at only 90 calories!
Basically tequila on the rocks with lots of freshly squeezed lime juice..yum! Add a teeny bit of stevia on the top of the rim if you really need that sweetness.
Glass of red wine
Red wine, in moderation, has long been thought of as heart healthy. The antioxidants found in red wine, such as flavonoids and a substance called resveratrol, have heart-healthy benefits, so feel free to enjoy a glass or two.
Glass of white wine
Though if you’re looking to cut calories, go white. Red wine may have the health benefits, but white wines tend to be slightly lower in calories. Light whites such as Riesling and pinot grigio have fewer calories than those with higher alcohol content such as Chardonnay and sauvignon blanc.
It's raspberry-infused vodka, club soda, and a splash of lime and cranberry juice. Just a splash of the cranberry juice adds enough flavor, but keeps the calories in check.
If you are a beer drinker..Get rid of the high-calorie beers and go for this one for only 95 cals.
Henny on the rocks
Last but not least, my very personal favorite..your favorite liquor (mine would be Hennessy) on the rocks...sip slowly and enjoy!
Also don't forget to control your alcohol munchies! After feeling a little tipsy your judgement may be a little off..put the chicken wing DOWN!! :)
